The Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show

I think sometimes when we travel, we choose destinations that are exotic, ancient or romantic. As an American, i am amazed at how old places are in the rest of the world. Sitting in a pub in London that is 800 years old and it’s always been a pub. Or slowly meandering the canals of Venice with your sweetheart next to you waiting to have that kiss under the Bridge of Sighs. You may even have the opportunity to get a tan or burn, on one of the most famous beaches in the South Pacific. That’s what we want to see. But what we want doesn’t match up with what we need. Just good ole fashioned fun!

There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor- Charles Dickens

I call it the 3 F’s. Fun, fast and furious. You’ll lose an hour of your life, but it’s well worth it. The Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show in Ketchikan Alaska is cheesy, loud and fun!

Two teams of lumberjacks, one side for the Canadians – boo! and one side for the Americans – yah! compete is some of the more popular timber sports, head-to-head. Events like pole climbing, axe toss, chainsaw, bucksaw and the ever popular log rolling. Each event has one winner and at the end of all the events, the team that has the most wins or points, wins the day for their side. Guests can sit on the side they want to root for. It can get pretty loud, you can hear it from almost anywhere in town.

The stands are covered and heated incase of inclement weather. So you stay dry the whole time.

In the end, it’s fun, funny and fantastic. The other 3 F’s. The Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show is a must do that will still allow you time for the rest of the town.

There are multiple shows per day depending on when your ship pulls in and it’s an easy walk from any of the docks.

Come join in on the fun!
